National External Diploma Program graduate, Michael, from the Academy of Hope Adult Public Charter School in Washington, D.C., shares his journey of commitment

Michael is a former board member of the Academy of Hope and helped to elevate the response to student concerns, advocate on behalf of students, and shape the future of The Hope!

Michael first heard about the NEDP approximately seven years ago. After attending an information session, he felt the NEDP was just what he was looking for. The program offered one-on-one assistance, and Michael would be able to concentrate more on his studies without the distractions of other classrooms and students. Once he began the Generalized Assessment phase, he found it challenging to stay committed because of everything that was happening in his life. However, what surprised him the most was his ability to stick with the program because it was not easy! His children were his biggest influences throughout NEDP, as he is trying to get them to succeed and finish school. Because his children have witnessed their father being able to study and succeed, Michael hopes this will motivate them to do well in school also. As Michael has said, “It feels great to have gone through the process, even when it got hard.”

Michael is a quiet person who is always willing to help others. He is currently searching for his own best career path, and college may be an option. He would really love to open his own business one day that teaches youth the skills they need to know to get ahead in the world.

We wish Michael all the best in his future endeavors and know his commitment will be instrumental in his goal of opening his own business to help youth learn important life skills!
