Integrating Soft Skills into ELL Instruction to Enhance Employment Opportunities, Presented by: Jane Eguez and Lori Howard

Adult education providers must prepare ELL students for transition to employment and career training. Explore how to support learners with limited job experience/education utilizing an employer-driven system that contextualizes workforce skills training and includes employer-recognized soft skills and academic assessments.

Designing Effective Workplace Instruction for English Language Learners, Presented by: Jane Eguez and Lori Howard

Improving productivity of ELL workers requires specialized employee training. Customized training includes organizational needs assessment leading to development of curriculum which addresses employer needs and employee skill gaps. Participants work with tools for conducting needs assessments and writing workplace curriculum.

Bridging the Gap: Developing Effective Transition Programs for English Language Learners, Presented by: Lori Howard and Jane Eguez

English Language Learners have goals beyond learning English: high school diploma, college degree, vocational training, and job. Presenter shares model California transition programs; participants can develop their own transition programs using these models. Discussion centers on program design and successes achieved.

Have you ever … opened a bank account, interviewed for a job, written a consumer complaint letter? The National External Diploma Program provides adults and youth a competency- and performance-based option for earning a high school diploma.
