Promising Practices: Accountability

These projects help to improve agency and student accountability through the effective use of data, assessments, and reporting.

  • CASAS Data Collection

South San Francisco has created an effective and organized system for placement, testing, and targeting ESL student needs based on TOPSpro reports. (South San Francisco Adult School)

  • English as a Second Language Student Profile Data

The ESL department at Mt. San Antonio College created an online data entry system in which all students provide up-to-date information as they progress through the levels of the ESL Program.

  • TOPSpro Network Meetings

TOPSpro Network meetings provide mentors for new TOPSpro users, improve accountability of WIA II agencies, and enable the TOPSpro experts in every agency to assist teachers and administrators in improving instruction through the use of clear student data. (Torrance Adult School)

  • Unlocking the Potential to Positive Student Engagement

Beginning in the fall of 2010, the Corona-Norco Adult School English as a Second Language (ESL) Leadership Team sought to improve student performance outcomes by actively examining student engagement.

  • Using CASAS Skill Level Descriptors with Students

This program has implemented a successful system to help students understand the importance of CASAS assessments. Students are more in control of their own education, and understand how to use assessment results to track their progress and shape their classroom experiences. (Asian-American Resource Center)
