  • Unlocking the Potential to Positive Student Engagement

    Beginning in the fall of 2010, the Corona-Norco Adult School English as a Second Language (ESL) Leadership Team sought to improve student performance outcomes by actively examining student engagement.

  • ABE and ESL Pacing Guides

    This Promising Practice promotes consistency in curriculum coverage and stimulates professional development. (Sweetwater UHSD Adult and Community Education)

  • Professional Learning Communities

    Teachers and staff identify “essential learning”, create common formative assessments, and identify and implement research-based instructional strategies to improve student learning. (New Haven Adult School)

  • Give Me 20 Minutes Reading Project

    The "Give me 20" reading program encourages students to read at least 20 minutes a day. (Mt. San Antonio Community College District)

  • VESL Computer Lab

    The VESL Computer Lab Class provides Beginning to Advanced ESL students with a technology-based curriculum to build employability skills and improve English proficiency. (Freemont Adult School)

  • Using ESL Student Portfolios to Promote Level Progress

    This noncredit ESL program has developed a portfolio-based system for tracking student learning outcomes, both within a level and as they advance through the agency’s 7-level program. (Mt. San Antonio CCD)

  • Community Outreach Internship Program (COIP)

    This program provides a clear pathway for students to gain the skills necessary to obtain meaningful employment within the University of California San Francisco system. (Jewish Vocational Service)

  • I-BEST Model Applied to VESL Personal Care Assistant/Caregiver Class

    The use of the I-BEST model in a VESL Personal Care Assistant class has successfully integrated vocational training and Vocational ESL instruction. This class creates a strong pathway for students to enter the health care field. (San Diego Community College District)

  • Integrating Technology into ESL/EL Civics Programs

  • ESL Literacy Volunteer Project
