For Reading STEPS, Listening STEPS and Math GOALS 2

The Accommodations Materials for Visual Impairment/Blindness are supplements to the regular test administration manuals and test booklets for these three test series: Reading STEPS, Listening STEPS and Math GOALS 2.

CASAS eTests are compatible with screen reader software.

Test takers with visual impairment/blindness can use CASAS eTests with a screen reader and listen to the test directions, a description of the prompts, test questions, and the answer options for Reading STEPS and Math GOALS 2. For questions about how screen reader software works with online testing, contact the Disability Support Services office at your agency or district, if available, or call CASAS for more information.

These materials can also be used to provide accommodations for test takers with other documented disabilities who require a human reader or use of a screen reader during assessments.



Reading STEPS Test Administration Manual Supplement for Test Takers with Visual Impairment/Blindness

for Forms 619R and 621R – 630R 

STEPS-Reading-Blind-and-Vision-Impaired-TAM-cover-ARIAL-Font-Color-PaperThe Reading STEPS Test Administration Manual Supplement for Test Takers with Visual Impairment/Blindness is used in conjunction with the Reading STEPS Test Administration for CASAS eTests and paper-based tests. The supplement includes specific administration guidelines and materials for administering Reading and Listening STEPS assessments to test takers with visual impairment/blindness. In addition, test form scripts for prompts, test questions, and answer options are included for the Reader/Scribe for all forms in the series.

Note: There is not a tactile graphics/braille supplement for CASAS Reading STEPS, as test questions are text-only and allow the Reader/Scribe to read both the questions and the answer options to the test taker.

For those using CASAS eTests, Reading STEPS Forms 619R and 621R – 630R are compatible with screen reading software. Test takers with visual impairment/blindness can listen to the test directions, a description of the prompts, test questions, and answer options.

The supplement includes tactile graphics for prompts and test questions in braille for items that  can be accessed for test takers with visual impairment/blindness. Tactile graphics are images that use raised surfaces so that a test taker with visual impairment/blindness can feel them. They convey non-textual information such as maps, graphs and diagrams.

The Math GOALS 2 Test Administration Manual Supplement for Test Takers with Visual Impairment/Blindness and the Math GOALS 2 Tactile Graphics/Braille Supplement for Test Takers with Visual Impairment/Blindness are sold together as a package.
