When Jodie enrolled in the NEDP she knew what she wanted, and was determined to achieve her goals and dreams. Her Assessor says of Jodi, “She is a hard-working, dedicated, ambitious young lady. Her work ethic and diligence to her goals are unparalleled. She is the type of student that exemplifies all the best qualities necessary for success.”
Jodie's goal was to complete the NEDP program as soon as possible so she could enroll in college. She worked day and night on her competencies. Dedication and determination allowed her to progress quickly through the NEDP.
Upon graduation, she started working for a high-ranking company on the list of Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For and enrolled at SUNY Empire State College. Not only did she reach her goals, she is achieving more than she expected. “I'm currently getting stellar grades in school, and I work for one of the best companies in the area. When I was studying in the NEDP my prospective of life and goals changed. I knew I wanted to go to college but I did not know what I wanted to study. The NEDP sparked my interest in the education field. I often saw how my Assessor handled, affected, and inspired other adult learners.” As the child of a single-parent family she says, “This program taught me that no matter where you come from, what obstacles you are dealing with or your age, education is important and achievable.”
At her graduation, Jodie heard many stories about how the NEDP affected other lives: it gave them promotions at their jobs and made them feel more confident. Jodie says: “When a person works for something and sees progress and improvement they are more likely to keep at it. My favorite part of the program was that I always saw myself growing academically. I wanted to build on that knowledge, set more educational goals, and see more growth not only as a student, but also as a person. The NEDP gave me the opportunity to get a high school education, helped me decide what I want to do with my education, and showed me how education has an impact on so many people in my community.”
“The NEDP taught me the true meaning of hard work, and determination. Without learning skills such as writing research papers, geography projects, financial literacy, science, and other skills, I would have never been able to practice the skills and lessons necessary for work and college.”
