Update on CASAS Testing During the COVID-19 Pandemic

May 11, 2020

CASAS is excited to support agencies as they prepare for the future with distance learning becoming a regular and essential part of their programs. In order to better support distance learning opportunities for more learners, remote testing is the wave of the future.

Over the last several weeks, we have had the pleasure of working with agencies in 15 states who have been participating in CASAS remote testing pilots. They have been successful in conducting remote testing with a limited number of students in their programs. This week’s focus has been to expand to include other web conferencing platforms in addition to Zoom. Some agencies have also experimented in testing up to five students at a time.

In this new testing environment, proctors have had to learn how to maintain test security requirements in order to ensure reliable test results and how to reassure test takers through web conferencing.

CASAS is committed to exploring other testing solutions to enable more students to be tested at a time.

CASAS encourages programs to try out remote testing on a small high priority sample of students in order to develop the capacity and flexibility to administer tests remotely in conjunction with distance learning now and in the future.

Ongoing updates on remote testing can be found on the Remote Testing page of the CASAS website.
